Some Student Discounts
The following are some student discounts that may apply to you. Please do check eligibility criteria.
Rail Fares
Students are eligible to a range of discounts.
You can obtain a rail card giving you 1/3 off rail fares and a TOTUM card giving you access to discounts from a wide range of retailers.
Council Tax
Students are exempt from paying council tax.
Universal Credits
Universal credit is one of the benefits that one can claim from the government if their income is low. Most
students are not entitled to universal credit, but some students are, for example, if you are responsible for a child (e.g., because you are a parent).
Disabled Students Allowance
Disabled students are entitled to the Disabled Students’ Allowance of up to £27,783 a year for 2025/26 depending on individual circumstances. Your University services and student union will be able to advise you on matters relating to your benefits entitlements as a student and student discounts.
